Des Moines Resident Alyssa Anne Maher Identified as Victim in Fatal Stabbing
A 20-year-old woman, identified as Alyssa Anne Maher, was found dead with apparent stab wounds at a hotel in Des Moines early Tuesday morning, according to local authorities.

Tragic Incident at Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Fairgrounds
Des Moines Police Department received a distress call reporting a stabbing incident at the Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Fairgrounds, located at 410 E. 30th St., around 2:30 a.m. on November 14. Officers swiftly responded to the scene to investigate the report.
Upon arrival, law enforcement determined that Alyssa Anne Maher had sustained “multiple traumatic injuries believed to be stab wounds,” as stated in a news release by the Des Moines Police Department. Maher was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition but tragically succumbed to her injuries.
Suspect Arrested and Charged with First-Degree Murder
Shortly after the incident, 24-year-old Brantlee Austin Gage Rainey, a resident of Des Moines, was apprehended by the police and charged with first-degree murder. Sergeant Paul Parizek announced in a news release that Rainey had been found in the same room where the victim was discovered. Additionally, he was found in possession of a knife that “exhibited obvious signs of blood.” Rainey also matched the description provided by witnesses.
Investigation and Arrest Details
The Des Moines Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing. Rainey is currently being held on a $1 million bond while awaiting further legal proceedings.
