Accident – Death – Obituary News : US Authorities Launch Urgent Search for Missing Man Who Fell off Louisiana Cruise Ship

US authorities have launched an urgent search operation for a 28-year-old man who went missing after falling off a cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico. The incident was reported to the New Orleans Coast Guard on Monday, November 13. The missing passenger, identified as Tyler Barnett from Houma, Louisiana, was on board the Carnival Glory cruise ship en route to Montego Bay, Jamaica.

The Coast Guard immediately dispatched two aircraft to conduct search and rescue operations upon receiving the report. In a statement released by the 8th District Coast Guard, it was revealed that Barnett was last spotted on a security camera at around midnight on Monday morning. The cruise ship’s security teams initiated a search for him after being alerted by his family. However, due to severe weather conditions and safety concerns, the search was temporarily halted overnight and resumed the following morning.

Matt Lupoli, a spokesperson for the Carnival Cruise Line, disclosed that the cruise’s Care Team is providing support to Barnett’s family who are also on board the ship. Lupoli further stated that urgent marine broadcasts have been transmitted in the hopes of other vessels in the area locating and rescuing Barnett. The Coast Guard deployed an Aviation Training Center Mobile HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew and an Air Station Clearwater HC-130 Super Hercules aircrew to search a roughly 200-mile area along the ship’s route.

Barnett’s grandmother, Dirlean Tate Mason, revealed that his sister and uncle were also on board the cruise ship. Expressing her concerns, she questioned the lack of security cameras despite claims of their abundance. She stated, “It just seems odd to me that there’s no camera, as many cameras as they say they have.” She added, “I had paced the floor and cried all day yesterday. I just want answers and I’m holding out for hope.” Mason firmly believes that her grandson would never consider taking his own life because “he loves his girls.”

The search operation is ongoing, with authorities utilizing all available resources to locate Barnett. The Coast Guard continues to coordinate efforts with other agencies and vessels in the vicinity. The incident has raised questions about the cruise industry’s safety measures and the need for improved security and surveillance systems on board.
