Jaisalmer, India – In a devastating incident, six individuals, including three children, from two families hailing from Jalgaon in Maharashtra lost their lives in a fatal road accident on the Barmer-Jaisalmer National Highway-68. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Dhorimanna police station on Monday evening. The police authorities promptly reached the scene and managed to clear the traffic congestion caused by the accident within thirty minutes.

According to SHO Sukhram Vishnoi of Dhorimanna police station, the two families, identified as Dhanraj and Yogesh, were close friends and had embarked on a trip to Jaisalmer after celebrating the Diwali festival. They were travelling in two separate cars, with one vehicle leading the way and the other following closely. Tragedy struck when a speeding trailer overtook the second car near Surate ki Beri village on NH-68, colliding with it.

The car was carrying a total of six people at the time of the accident. Unfortunately, five individuals, including the three children, lost their lives on the spot, while a critically injured woman was rushed to Sanchore for medical treatment. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries during the course of the treatment.

The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was completely mangled, trapping the bodies inside. The local residents came to the aid of the police and helped in the rescue operation. The accident resulted in a traffic jam on the highway, which was cleared by the authorities after considerable effort.

The deceased have been identified as Dhanraj (45), his wife Sonwaro (40), their daughter Swaranjali (5), Prashant (5), the son of Yogesh, Bhagya Lakshmi (1), the daughter of Yogesh, and Yogesh’s wife, Gayatri (26). The bodies have been transferred to the mortuary of Dhorimanna Hospital.

Road accidents continue to be a major cause of concern in India. In a recent report, it was revealed that 91% of road accident victims in Delhi in 2022 were men. The data from Delhi Traffic Police indicated that men accounted for 91% of the total deaths and 86% of the injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes. The majority of the fatalities occurred among individuals aged 40 and above, while the most vulnerable age group for injuries was between 19 and 30 for men and over 40 for women. Road engineering issues were identified as one of the main causes of these accidents, with pedestrians and motorcyclists being the most affected.

In another tragic incident in Texas, a police officer was killed and another wounded in a shooting. The incident took place when the officers responded to a call from a woman claiming to have been stabbed. Upon their arrival at the scene, they were met with gunfire, resulting in an exchange of bullets between the suspect and the officers. Two other individuals were later found dead inside a nearby residence. The case is currently under investigation.

The Jaisalmer road accident has once again highlighted the need for improving road safety measures and raising awareness among motorists. It is imperative for authorities to implement effective strategies to prevent such tragic incidents and ensure the safety of all road users..
