Accident – Death – Obituary News : Tragic Fiery Crash on Ohio Interstate Claims Lives of Six Individuals

TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio – The devastating aftermath of a fiery highway crash along an Ohio interstate has left the community mourning the loss of six individuals. Among the victims were three students, who were tragically killed in the incident that occurred on Tuesday along I-70 in Licking County. The students were en route to perform at the Ohio School Boards Association conference when the fatal crash took place.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP) reported that the chain-reaction crash involved a charter bus, two commercial vehicles, and two passenger vehicles, all heading westbound on I-70. The collision resulted in a harrowing scene, with at least three vehicles catching fire. The fire was a direct consequence of the crash, exacerbating the already devastating situation.

The OSP has since confirmed that three teenagers on the bus lost their lives in the crash. The victims have been identified as 18-year-old John W. Mosely, 18-year-old Jeffery D. Worrell, and 15-year-old Katelyn N. Owens. The school district, in a heartbreaking statement, verified that the three teenagers were indeed students.

Tragically, another passenger vehicle involved in the crash also suffered fatalities. The vehicle was occupied by three individuals, identified as 56-year-old Dave Kennat, 39-year-old Kristy Gaynor, and 45-year-old Shannon Wigfield. Kennat was a beloved high school teacher, while Gaynor and Wigfield were parents who also served as teachers at the Buckeye Career Center.

The school district confirmed the devastating news that a teacher and two parent chaperones were the three individuals who lost their lives in the passenger vehicle.

Amidst this tragedy, two students remain hospitalized with serious, but thankfully non-life-threatening injuries. Furthermore, one driver of the commercial vehicles involved was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center with injuries that are also not considered life-threatening. The other driver was treated and released at the scene. Additionally, the driver of the second passenger vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has announced that it will commence its investigation into the crash on Wednesday. Their thorough investigation aims to determine the cause and factors contributing to this horrific incident.
