Accident – Death – Obituary News : Milwaukee Man Faces Hit-and-Run and Intoxication Charges Following Downtown Crash

MILWAUKEE – A man from Milwaukee is now facing charges of hit-and-run and injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle after a serious crash that occurred on Saturday, November 11. The 27-year-old Jesus Rodriguez was found to have been driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) approximately three times the legal limit.

The incident took place on the I-794 eastbound Van Buren Street off ramp, involving two vehicles. Shortly after the crash, a detective noticed two individuals hiding behind a concrete wall with bloodstains on their clothes, one of whom was identified as Rodriguez.

According to the criminal complaint, when questioned by a deputy about the events leading up to the crash, Rodriguez claimed ignorance, stating, “I don’t know, why?” He denied being in either of the vehicles involved and insisted that he was not the driver, although he admitted to coming from a bar.

Another person who was with Rodriguez at the time informed the deputy that they were indeed part of the crash but were unsure of what to do. Initially, this individual stated that Rodriguez had picked them up from a bar, but later denied that he was the driver. Instead, they described someone named “Brandon” as the driver, although they were unable to provide any further information about Brandon’s whereabouts.

Rodriguez, who eventually admitted to being the registered owner of one of the vehicles, continued to claim that he did not know who was driving. However, evidence found inside the vehicle, such as bloodstains and car seats in the back, suggested that the other individual involved was the passenger, leaving no room for a third adult to be present.

According to the complaint, Rodriguez exhibited signs of intoxication, including the smell of alcohol and slurred speech. A preliminary breath test revealed a BAC of 0.236, nearly three times the legal limit. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to a hospital for an evidentiary blood draw, the results of which are still pending.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash reported that Rodriguez’s car ran a red light and collided with his vehicle. The injured driver was taken to the hospital by ambulance and required surgery, which involved the insertion of four screws into his knee. Doctors have informed him that the screws may need to remain in his knee permanently, potentially causing a permanent limp once he is able to walk again.

Rodriguez made his initial court appearance on Wednesday, November 15 and was granted a $5,000 signature bond.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the severe consequences that can result from such irresponsible behavior. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash, and further legal actions against Rodriguez may be taken pending the results of the blood test.
