Accident – Death – Obituary News : Man Arrested After Crashing While Fleeing Deputies in Polk County, Florida

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A suspect sporting a distinctive neck tattoo reading “all gas no brakes” has been apprehended following a dramatic car chase in Polk County, Florida. The incident unfolded in the early hours of the morning when deputies responded to reports of a car burglary in the Preservation Pointe neighborhood, situated off County Road 547.

According to a post on the sheriff’s office’s social media page, two individuals, later identified as a man and a woman, were spotted attempting to break into multiple vehicles within the neighborhood. As law enforcement arrived at the scene, the suspects fled in their vehicle towards the neighborhood’s only exit.

Although a deputy initiated a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle evaded capture by speeding away into the residential area. Due to the subdivision’s limited ingress and egress points, the pursuing officer decided against a high-speed chase. However, another deputy soon spotted the suspects as they attempted to change direction and find an alternate escape route.

The pursuit came to an abrupt end when the suspects’ vehicle collided with a parked car. The driver, identified as 37-year-old Timothy Allen Hogue, and his passenger, 31-year-old Rebecca Kozub, sustained injuries and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Following their release from medical care, detectives from the sheriff’s office interviewed Hogue, who confessed to the burglaries and implicated Kozub as the mastermind behind the crimes. Hogue stated that he fled the scene because he “just freaked out.”

Hogue now faces multiple charges, including four counts of burglary of an unoccupied conveyance with enhancement of crossing county lines, three counts of felony petit theft, fleeing to elude, conspiracy to commit burglary, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting without violence.

Meanwhile, Kozub remains hospitalized due to a fractured leg sustained during the crash. The authorities are currently considering charges against her.

Reflecting on the incident, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd emphasized the dangerous nature of fleeing from law enforcement in a residential neighborhood. He expressed relief that no innocent bystanders were harmed and highlighted the potential for catastrophic consequences, such as crashing into a house. Sheriff Judd also drew attention to the irony of Hogue’s neck tattoo, which reads “All gas, no brakes,” suggesting a propensity for reckless behavior.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office shared a video of the incident on their Facebook page, providing further insight into the high-speed pursuit and subsequent crash. The footage serves as a stark reminder of the risks involved in evading law enforcement.

As investigations continue, local residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities. Law enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to maintain the safety and security of the community.
