MEMPHIS, Tenn. — In a shocking incident, a man identified as Marcus Johnson is facing multiple charges after allegedly strangling a police officer and biting off a piece of his ear during a routine traffic stop in Memphis. The incident occurred on Tuesday when an officer pulled over a 2002 Ford F-150 that had license plates registered to a Buick Century.

Prior to the officer approaching the vehicle, Johnson reportedly threw a brown leather pouch onto the ground. When questioned about the vehicle information, Johnson provided details that belonged to a female. Sensing something amiss, the officer attempted to take Johnson into custody, but he fiercely resisted.

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), Johnson proceeded to strangle the officer and violently bit off a portion of his right ear. He also assaulted the officer by repeatedly punching him in the face and stomach. In addition, Johnson managed to remove the officer’s weapon and taser from his belt.

Despite the intense struggle, the officer eventually managed to apprehend Johnson and recover the leather pouch that had been discarded. Upon inspection, the pouch was found to contain various illicit substances, including marijuana, fentanyl, methamphetamine, ecstasy, and Xanax.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday morning.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers during routine traffic stops. The MPD is commending the officer for his bravery and quick thinking in the face of a violent assault.
