The incident occurred on October 15 when the Topeka Police Department received reports of a shooting in the 1600 block of SW 21st St. First responders arrived at the scene and discovered Jackson E. Danner with multiple gunshot wounds in the front yard of a home. Unfortunately, Danner was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to District Attorney Kagay, Danner was the sole tenant and owner of the home where the shooting occurred. He was apprehended by the U.S. Marshals in Clay Co., Mo., in connection to an unrelated felony domestic battery case on November 3. Serrano was held in Missouri until Tuesday, when he was extradited back to Topeka and booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.

On November 7, District Attorney Kagay filed a single charge of second-degree murder related to the homicide. Aaron Serrano is currently in custody with a total bond set at $1,005,000. The charges against him include second-degree murder, aggravated domestic battery, domestic battery, theft of less than $1,500, and criminal damage to property.
