MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A shocking incident unfolded in Memphis as a man, identified as Marcus Johnson, has been arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder, resisting official detention, criminal impersonation, possession of controlled substances, simple possession, driving while license suspended, financial responsibility, and violation of vehicle registration law. The charges stem from an altercation where Johnson allegedly attacked a Memphis police officer, choking him and biting off a part of his ear.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when officers conducted a routine traffic stop on a 2002 Ford F150 with Mississippi license plates. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the license plates belonged to a Buick Century registered at a residence on Panama Street. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Marcus Johnson.

According to the affidavit, as the officer attempted to detain Johnson, he resisted and initiated a physical altercation, putting the officer in a chokehold. In a brutal act, Johnson allegedly bit off a portion of the officer’s ear and repeatedly punched him in the face and upper torso. During the struggle, Johnson managed to seize the officer’s handgun and Taser from his gun belt.

Fortunately, the officer eventually managed to regain control of his weapons and successfully apprehend Johnson. However, the incident left the officer injured and traumatized.

In a shocking twist, officers discovered a brown leather pouch near the driver’s side door. Upon inspection, it was found to contain various illicit substances, including rock-like substances consistent with fentanyl and crack cocaine, as well as a substance resembling methamphetamine. Additionally, police found four green crush pills, believed to be ecstasy, and a Xanax bar.

Subsequent testing confirmed the presence of marijuana, fentanyl, methamphetamine, ecstasy, and Xanax in the seized substances. This significant discovery further compounds the charges against Johnson, highlighting the extent of his alleged criminal activities.

Further investigation also revealed that Johnson’s driver’s license had been revoked, and he failed to provide proof of insurance, compounding the list of offenses he now faces.
