Tragic Boating Accident Claims Life of Lake County Man and Leaves Another Missing near Fort Bragg

NORTH COAST, Calif. — A harrowing boating incident off the coast of Fort Bragg has resulted in the death of one Lake County resident and left another missing. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday that the body of 58-year-old Charles Case, which washed ashore on Friday, has been identified.

The second individual, 61-year-old Kenneth Silva from Lake County, remains unaccounted for, according to the law enforcement agency.

The incident came to light when Mendocino County Sheriff’s deputies promptly responded to a distress call at 3:41 p.m. on Friday. The report mentioned a lifeless adult male found on the shore near the Ten Mile Dunes, situated to the north of MacKerricher State Park in the vicinity of Fort Bragg.

Authorities have since confirmed that the deceased individual was indeed Charles Case. Deputies arriving at the scene deduced that Case had been aboard a small recreational boat that had capsized and subsequently washed ashore, approximately half a mile north of where his body was discovered.

Further investigations conducted by the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Kenneth Silva was also onboard the ill-fated vessel, which had been launched from Noyo Harbor less than two hours prior to the incident.

Over the next 24 hours, an extensive search operation was launched in the ocean area by the US Coast Guard, while California State Park Rangers and Mendocino Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers scoured the shoreline. Unfortunately, all efforts to locate Silva proved fruitless.

Undeterred, Mendocino County Sheriff’s Deputies continue to conduct daily searches using the limited in-county resources at their disposal.

The tragic news has deeply saddened the friends of both men, who expressed their grief through heartfelt memorials on Facebook. Case, whose Facebook profile indicated he was a self-employed commercial fisherman, and Silva, both hailed from the Richmond area, where they were raised.
