Halton Regional Police Service Launches Annual Kozy Kids Initiative

For the third consecutive year, the Halton Regional Police Service is proud to announce the commencement of its annual Kozy Kids initiative, a program aimed at ensuring that underserved youth across the Halton Region are well-equipped for the upcoming winter season.

Initiated in 2021, the Kozy Kids program was created in response to the realization that many children, particularly newcomers to Canada, were consistently absent from school during the winter months due to their families’ inability to afford winter clothing. In the Town of Milton alone, one hundred five students were identified as needing assistance. To address this issue, the Halton Police, with the support of generous contributions from local residents and business owners, collected gently used clothing and financial donations, ensuring that all identified children received a snowsuit or winter jacket.

Building on the success of the inaugural year, and with the continued support of financial donations, the Halton Police expanded the initiative in the following year by ordering new snowsuits tailored to size, benefiting 475 youth.

Recognizing the ongoing challenges posed by the rising cost of living in the region, the Halton Police are collaborating with local community partners to identify more families in need of support. This collaborative effort will help ensure that the Kozy Kids initiative reaches as many underserved children as possible.

Community Involvement

The Kozy Kids initiative encourages community participation to enhance its impact. Starting today and running until November 21st, members of the community are invited to contribute by purchasing new snowsuits in youth sizes 6-16. These snowsuits can be dropped off at collection boxes located at the Halton Police Headquarters and each of the District buildings.

Expressing Gratitude

Chief of Police Stephen J. Tanner expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the entire Halton Police Service. He stated, “When you donate, you’re not just helping to keep kids warm as they travel to and from school, you’re giving them the opportunity to explore and learn in the great outdoors, even during isolating winter months. We have witnessed firsthand the joy and excitement that your donations bring to children in our community. On behalf of myself and the entire Service, we extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who contribute, as you are warming both the bodies and hearts of those who need us the most.”
