Fatal Crash in Etna, Ohio Claims Lives of Three Local Marching Band Students, Two Chaperones, and a Teacher

Accident – Death – Obituary News : ETNA, Ohio (AP/WJW) — The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be returning to the scene of a tragic crash that claimed the lives of three local marching band students, two chaperones, and a teacher. The incident occurred on Tuesday when a charter bus carrying high school students was rear-ended by a semitruck on Interstate 70, just outside of Columbus. The crash involved five vehicles in total and resulted in six fatalities and 18 injuries.

The victims have been identified as John W. Mosely, 18, of Mineral City; Jeffery D. Worrell, 18, of Bolivar; and Katelyn N. Owens, 15, of Mineral City. Three passengers on the bus were pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured individuals were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

In the wake of the tragedy, pastors and grief counselors will be present at Tuscarawas Valley Local high school on Wednesday to provide support to students and staff. The district made the decision not to cancel school in order to create a space where everyone can come together and find solace in each other’s company.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the NTSB. It remains unclear what led to the collision between the charter bus and the semitruck. Both directions of Interstate 70 were temporarily closed in Licking County near the State Route 310 interchange following the accident.
