Dallas Brandon Cain Fatally Shot by Somerset Police Officers in Pulaski County

Accident – Death – Obituary News : SOMERSET, KY – An ongoing investigation by the Kentucky State Police (KSP) into a recent officer-involved shooting in Pulaski County has shed new light on the incident that took place on October 27, 2023.

According to the KSP Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT), crucial interviews with witnesses and involved officers have been conducted as part of the preliminary investigation. The initial findings indicate that officers from the Somerset Police Department (SPD) were responding to a domestic disturbance call on Emerald Court. While officers were in the process of interviewing one of the parties involved, a 51-year-old male, identified as Dallas Brandon Cain from Somerset, KY, emerged from the residence armed with a handgun.

Despite repeated commands from the officers to drop the firearm, Mr. Cain refused and instead raised the weapon towards the officers, prompting them to perceive an imminent threat. In response, the SPD officers discharged their firearms, resulting in Mr. Cain being fatally struck by gunfire.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, with authorities aiming to gather all necessary evidence and information to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the events that transpired.

The officers directly involved in the incident have been identified as Sergeant Stephen Langdon, a 49-year-old with 19 years of service in the SPD; Officer Chandler Gover, a 26-year-old with 3 years of service; Officer Taylor Cundiff, a 29-year-old with 3 years of service; Officer Theodore Wax, a 25-year-old with 1 year of service; and Officer Jacob Loudermilk, a 22-year-old also with 1 year of service.

The initial release from the Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 11 in London highlighted that the Somerset Police Department had requested their assistance in investigating the officer-involved shooting that occurred on the night of October 27, 2023, at approximately 11:53 p.m. EST. The incident took place on Emerald Court within the Somerset city limits, situated in Pulaski County.

According to the preliminary investigation, officers from the Somerset Police Department had responded to a report of domestic violence, encountering a male suspect armed with a firearm at the scene. During the confrontation, the officers discharged their agency-issued firearms, striking the suspect.

The suspect, later identified as Dallas Brandon Cain, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office. His body was subsequently transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort for an autopsy.

Additionally, it was reported that one officer from the Somerset Police Department sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the incident and was transported to Lake Cumberland Hospital for treatment.
