The lifeless body of a Venezuelan woman discovered on November 6 along a desolate road on the outskirts of San Fernando has been officially identified. The victim has been identified as Liliannyis Vera Gonzalez, a 25-year-old who had been reported missing by her family. The identification was made by Gonzalez’s relatives on Wednesday at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.

Gonzalez was last seen alive on November 5 when she left her residence in Saltmine Trace, Siparia. She was dressed in a red dress and red sandals. The following day, the police received an anonymous call at approximately 4:30 pm reporting a woman’s body with multiple chop wounds on a road at Hermitage Extension near Debe. At the time, the victim remained unidentified and was found wearing a black top and leggings. Her body was partially covered with a blanket.

Upon receiving the report, authorities from the Southern Division police, including ASP Phillip and Insps Ramlogan and Lewis, as well as the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region III, police, including Insp John, Sgt Mohammed, and PCs Nelson and Noel, immediately responded to the scene to conduct a thorough investigation and gather crucial evidence.

Meanwhile, Gonzalez’s worried relatives expressed concern when she failed to return home, and all attempts to contact her via calls and WhatsApp messages went unanswered. On November 9, her uncle, Oswal Fuenmayor, reported her missing to the Siparia police. He informed them that she had left her home around 5:30 pm on November 5, stating that she was heading to San Fernando. Later that evening, at approximately 10:45 pm, Gonzalez contacted her cousin through a WhatsApp call, informing them that she was “liming” (socializing) in Point Fortin. However, all subsequent calls to her phone went unanswered.

A missing persons investigation was initiated, with W/Sgt Johnson-Brewster leading the efforts. Friends and relatives of Gonzalez appealed to the public for assistance in locating her. Sadly, their worst fears were realized when her body was discovered along the roadside.

According to information gathered from sources close to the case, it was revealed that Gonzalez had an argument with her boyfriend on the day she went missing. Her boyfriend resides in another area of Siparia, and neither the police nor her relatives have been able to locate him since the incident.

The Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI) is currently spearheading the ongoing investigation into the murder of Liliannyis Vera Gonzalez. Her grief-stricken family is urging anyone with information regarding the circumstances surrounding her tragic death to come forward and provide the necessary details to the police.
