Businessman Assaulted in Chennai for Questioning Noisy Firecrackers

A 60-year-old businessman residing in Sankar Nagar, Chennai, was brutally assaulted by unidentified individuals after he confronted a group for setting off loud firecrackers near his residence. The victim, Murali Kannan, currently lies in a coma at a local hospital due to the forceful attack that left him severely injured.

Murali Kannan, a well-established entrepreneur in the leather industry, runs a thriving leather factory and has been residing in Sankar Nagar for several years. Disturbed by the incessant noise caused by fireworks, he decided to approach a group of individuals who had come from another area to burst high-decibel crackers right in front of his house. His intention was to kindly request them to consider the inconvenience caused to the local residents.

However, the situation took a violent turn on the night of Deepavali, which fell on Sunday, November 12, 2023. Four individuals from the visiting group not only disregarded Murali Kannan’s plea but also responded with aggression. One of them unexpectedly punched him hard on his nose, causing profuse bleeding, and then callously pushed him to the ground. To add insult to injury, they hurled abusive language towards him and his wife, Lakshmi Prabha, in an act of criminal intimidation.

With blood gushing from his nose and ear, Murali Kannan was immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital. Unfortunately, the severity of his injuries resulted in him slipping into a coma, leaving his family and friends in a state of deep concern and distress.

Following the incident, Lakshmi Prabha, Murali Kannan’s wife, lodged a formal complaint with the Sankar Nagar Police, detailing the entire shocking event. The police wasted no time and promptly registered a case based on her complaint. Currently, investigations are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this heinous act.
