Upon receiving a panic/hold up alarm, patrol officers from the Klamath Falls Police Department immediately rushed to the scene. Simultaneously, a bank employee in Medford, who was monitoring surveillance cameras, reported seeing a male suspect inside the bank claiming to possess both firearms and a bomb. The gravity of the situation escalated as the suspect’s intentions became clear.

A collaborative effort between the Klamath Falls Police Department, Oregon State Police, Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Land Management Law Enforcement allowed for the swift establishment of a secure perimeter around the bank, containing the suspect within. As law enforcement officers formed a tight cordon, the suspect made a desperate attempt to flee through the rear exit, taking a bank employee with him.

However, the suspect’s escape was short-lived as he was confronted by the determined law enforcement personnel. Realizing the futility of his actions, the suspect relinquished the stolen money to the bank employee and was promptly taken into custody without any further incident. The authorities later identified the suspect as fifty-year-old Shawn D. Boggs, a resident of Klamath Falls.

According to reports, Boggs had entered the bank and presented a note demanding a sum of $6000.00. Fanning the flames of fear, he claimed to be armed with a firearm and in possession of a bomb. Witnesses observed Boggs making suspicious movements with his hand obscured within his sweater, suggesting he might be concealing a dangerous object. However, subsequent searches of Boggs’ person and his nearby vehicle yielded no evidence of either a firearm or an explosive device.
