41-Year-Old Lynne Cabiati Arrested After Driving in Wrong Direction, Injuring Kent Police Officer

Accident – Death – Obituary News : Woman Arrested for Driving Wrong Way on Interstate 84 while Intoxicated

A woman was arrested in Putnam County on Saturday, November 11, after she was reported to be driving east in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 in Kent. The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. and led to a collision with a Village of Brewster police cruiser near the Route 312 exit.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, a sheriff’s deputy spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over. Eventually, the car was stopped, but not before it struck the police cruiser. Fortunately, the officer inside the cruiser did not sustain any injuries. However, a Kent Police officer who responded to the scene was hit by an uninvolved vehicle, resulting in minor injuries for him and the occupants of that vehicle. They were all transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment.

Upon speaking with the driver, identified as 41-year-old Lynne Cabiati from Brewster, authorities discovered that she was unaware she had been traveling in the wrong direction. Further investigation revealed that Cabiati was intoxicated. The Sheriff’s Office stated that she failed several sobriety tests, leading to her arrest.

It was later discovered that the original 911 call reporting Cabiati’s wrong-way driving had been made in Dutchess County, indicating that she had traveled a considerable distance while going the wrong way on the interstate.

Following her arrest, Cabiati was charged with driving while intoxicated, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, and reckless driving. She was processed at the Sheriff’s Office and subsequently released to a relative. Cabiati is expected to appear in the Town of Southeast Court at a later date to address the charges against her.

This incident highlights the dangers of driving under the influence and the potential consequences that can result from such behavior. It serves as a reminder for all motorists to always drive responsibly and remain vigilant on the roads.
