Accident – Death – Obituary News : 24-Year-Old Identified as Victim of Tragic Fatal Crash on Colorado Springs’ East Side
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has officially identified the victim of a devastating fatal crash that occurred at the intersection of East Platte Avenue and North Academy Boulevard. The incident, which took place on October 28, involved two vehicles and resulted in the unfortunate death of a passenger who was thrown from one of the vehicles. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Mar’Layza West, tragically lost her life at the scene of the accident. Emergency responders immediately rushed the other occupants of both vehicles to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.

According to the CSPD’s preliminary investigation, it was determined that an SUV traveling on North Academy Boulevard attempted to make a left turn onto East Platte Avenue in a westbound direction. Simultaneously, a car was heading south on North Academy Boulevard and entered the intersection. Tragically, the two vehicles collided at the junction, resulting in the ejection of one of the SUV’s occupants.
The CSPD’s investigation has revealed that speed is a significant contributing factor in this tragic incident. The authorities are tirelessly working to gather more evidence and details to determine the exact cause of the crash and hold any responsible parties accountable.
Following the accident, the El Paso County coroner conducted an autopsy on the deceased passenger, Mar’Layza West, on October 30. The results of the autopsy confirmed her identity and provided additional insights into the cause of her untimely demise.
This unfortunate incident marks the 45th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs this year. It is worth noting that at this same time last year, there were 49 traffic fatalities recorded. Over the past 365 days, the city has witnessed a total of 50 traffic-related deaths. These alarming statistics highlight the urgency to prioritize road safety and raise awareness about the importance of responsible and cautious driving.
