Ghaziabad, India – In a heartbreaking incident that unfolded during the Diwali festivities, a 30-year-old man lost his life after a firecracker, playfully thrown by his friend, exploded near his leg. The victim, identified as Afzal Ansari, hailing from Deoghar in Jharkhand, suffered a severe leg injury and succumbed to excessive bleeding upon reaching a nearby hospital. The incident sent shockwaves through the Jhandapur colony in Ghaziabad, leaving the community in mourning.

According to a CCTV clip that emerged on social media, Afzal was seen engaging in conversation with a group of friends who were joyfully bursting crackers in a narrow lane. As he was about to leave, his friend Pradeep allegedly attempted to pull a prank by throwing a lit firecracker at him from behind. The explosive device detonated, enveloping Afzal in a cloud of smoke and causing him to collapse.

Authorities have launched an intensive search for Pradeep, who can be seen wearing a smile on his face in the CCTV footage after the tragic incident. In a bid to bring justice to the victim, two police teams have been formed to apprehend the culprit. Afzal’s close friend, Chandan Kumar, shared that the deceased lived alone in a rented house and worked as a daily wage laborer for a private firm. He had been estranged from his wife for several years.

Despite the prompt medical response, Afzal could not be saved. He was rushed to MMG Hospital, but sadly, he had already succumbed to his injuries by the time he arrived at the emergency ward. The authorities are now awaiting the autopsy report to ascertain the exact cause of death. Bhaskar Verma, ACP (Sahibabad), speculated that the firecracker may have had a metal casing, which amplified its sound and caused severe injury to Afzal’s veins.

In response to this tragic incident, the owner of the house where Afzal resided has filed a complaint against Pradeep at the Link Road police station. Pradeep has been booked under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Indian Penal Code. The police are actively pursuing him and express confidence in his imminent arrest.

This unfortunate incident serves as a poignant reminder of the inherent dangers associated with mishandling firecrackers during festive celebrations.
