Accident – Death – Obituary News : Tractor Driver Electrocuted While Rescuing Friend from Burning Truck in Kota Kinabalu
KOTA KINABALU – In a tragic incident that unfolded on Tuesday (Nov 14), a tractor driver lost his life after being electrocuted while attempting to rescue his friend, who was trapped inside a burning truck. The victim, identified as John Adam Baudi, 56, was operating a backhoe while his friend was unloading sand from a truck near Kg Samparita, in the Kota Marudu district. The incident occurred at approximately 11 am.
According to Mohd Hasbi Hajat, the Kota Marudu Fire Station chief, John noticed that the truck’s dump had caught fire and immediately rushed to assist his friend. Unfortunately, the dump had come in contact with a live wire during the unloading process, resulting in the fire. Unaware of the danger, John suffered an electric shock when he touched the door handle in an attempt to rescue his friend from the burning truck.
Tragically, John lost consciousness and was pronounced dead by medical officials and policemen who arrived at the scene. Meanwhile, the injured truck driver was promptly transferred to a nearby hospital by other workers in the vicinity. Concerned about potential electric shocks, the workers used sticks to extract him from the vehicle.
Hasbi stated that the fire department received the distress call around 11:35 am and reached the spot shortly thereafter. Firefighters swiftly brought the fire under control at 12:35 pm, and the operation concluded at 12:53 pm. As a precautionary measure, the electric cable was disconnected, and the power supply in the area was shut off.
At the time of reporting, the current condition of the truck driver remains unknown. Authorities are yet to release an update on his well-being. This unfortunate incident serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with handling heavy machinery and the importance of adhering to safety protocols.
