In a tragic incident in Bihar’s Jamui district, a police sub-inspector lost his life after being mowed down by a tractor transporting illegally mined sand. The incident, which occurred in Mahulia Tand village, also left two others injured, including a home guard, who have been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The deceased officer, identified as Prabhat Ranjan, hailed from Siwan district and served as the in-charge of Garhi Police Station. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors declared him brought dead, leaving the entire police force in shock.

Following the incident, Bihar’s Education Minister Chandra Shekar made a statement that shocked many. He mentioned that such incidents were not uncommon, citing similar occurrences in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh in the past. The minister assured that the culprits responsible for this tragic incident would face the appropriate legal consequences.

Prabhat Ranjan leaves behind a grieving family, including a four-year-old daughter and a six-month-old son. Currently, his wife, who recently gave birth to their newborn, is receiving medical care at a private hospital in Delhi. The bereaved family, hailing from the national capital, is expected to arrive in Jamui later today to bid farewell to their beloved one.

The injured home guard, Rajesh Kumar, has been identified and is currently in critical condition at a private clinic in Jamui. Authorities are closely monitoring his progress and providing the necessary medical attention.

Shaurya Suman, the Superintendent of Police in Jamui, disclosed that one individual named Mithilesh Kumar, involved in the incident, has been apprehended. However, the tractor’s driver, identified as Krishna, remains at large. Police have seized the tractor and are actively pursuing the driver to bring him to justice.

Unsurprisingly, this incident has sparked a political debate in the region. Chirag Paswan, the Member of Parliament for Jamui, criticized Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, questioning his leadership. Paswan raised concerns about the lack of concrete actions taken against sand smugglers in the state, emphasizing the risks they pose to public safety. He highlighted the grave consequences of illegal sand mining, such as drowning deaths in rivers and the endangerment of security forces by uncontrolled vehicles.

This heartbreaking incident in Jamui follows a similar occurrence earlier this month in Aurangabad district, Bihar, where a police constable was tragically crushed to death by the sand mafia while investigating the transportation of illegally mined sand. Additionally, last year in Haryana’s Nuh district, a police officer investigating illegal mining suffered a similar fate, allegedly mowed down by a truck.
