West Virginia State Police Probe Body Discovered in Elkins

ELKINS, W.Va. — The West Virginia State Police have launched an investigation after a body was found in the city of Elkins on Monday morning.

A trooper belonging to the Elkins Detachment was dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of Ward Road at approximately 10:45 a.m. in response to a report of a deceased male.

Upon arrival, the trooper discovered the lifeless body of a man in the driveway of the property. The victim, identified as Preston L. Higgins, had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest and a visible bruise on his forehead.

Authorities have stated that the victim’s cousin, Robert Higgins, made the discovery. Robert informed the police that there had been no communication from Preston for several days, which prompted him to check on his wellbeing. It was during this welfare visit that Robert tragically found Preston’s lifeless body in the driveway.

The West Virginia State Police are currently conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident, aiming to shed light on the circumstances surrounding Preston Higgins’ untimely demise.
