Accident – Death – Obituary News : Bloody Gang War Erupts in Juárez Following Cartel Member’s Girlfriend’s Death

Juárez, Mexico – A violent gang war has erupted in Juárez, leaving a trail of death and destruction in its wake. The conflict, which began after the death of a cartel member’s girlfriend, involves rival factions La Empresa and La Linea, both associated with the once-dominant Juárez drug cartel. The war has claimed dozens of lives so far, with authorities warning of escalating retaliatory violence.

Chihuahua State Attorney General César Gustavo Jauregui Moreno revealed the details of the gang war at a recent news conference. He stated that the violence escalated around Halloween, with more than 50 murders reported in the first two weeks of November alone. This surge in killings has put the local police on high alert.

The death toll in Juárez has already surpassed 1,000 homicides in 2023, with October alone accounting for 94 murders. The methods used in these killings range from street shootings to victims being gunned down in their own homes. The discovery of bodies wrapped in blankets, known as “encobijados,” in public areas has also become distressingly common.

Public safety secretary Gilberto Loya described the recent spike in violence as atypical, as the city had been experiencing a downward trend in homicides. However, the rupture within the La Linea crime organization, caused by a member breaking away following the death of his girlfriend, triggered a string of retaliatory attacks between the two rival groups.

La Empresa, known as a “hybrid gang/cartel” that emerged in 2018, provided support to the disgruntled La Linea member, resulting in a fierce war between the factions. The couple’s identities have not been disclosed.

One of the alleged leaders of La Empresa, Luis Alejandro C.R., also known as “El Borracho” or “El Chino,” was killed at a tire repair shop on Dia de los Muertos, November 2nd. His death served as a catalyst for further violence and prompted state police to stage a raid on a funeral vigil held for him.

During the vigil raid, state police SWAT officers faced significant challenges, with many mourners linked to organized crime and armed guards positioned on the building’s roof. Despite the difficulties, authorities managed to arrest 11 suspected gunmen and seize an arsenal of four rifles, seven handguns, and various quantities of drugs. Several of the detained individuals have confessed to their involvement in multiple homicides.

Further arrests were made the following day when officers from the State Investigations Agency apprehended three additional men traveling in a Dodge Durango. The vehicle was suspected to be linked to the ongoing gang warfare.

Jauregui Moreno emphasized that valuable information was being extracted from the arrested individuals and seized cell phones. State police are committed to conducting further raids and making arrests targeting the criminal organizations involved in the conflict. This comprehensive approach aims to bring the situation under control and facilitate further investigations.

The escalating gang war in Juárez has raised concerns among local residents and authorities alike. As the death toll continues to rise, efforts to combat organized crime and reduce violence in the region have become paramount. Only time will tell if the authorities’ actions will be enough to restore peace to this violence-stricken city.
