Accident – Death – Obituary News : City of Hammond Police Apprehend Suspects in Two Separate Shooting Incidents

Hammond, LA – On October 28, 2023, at approximately 5:49 pm, the Hammond Police Department (HPD) swiftly responded to the area of Washington Avenue and Stanley Street in response to a shooting incident. The HPD detectives, during their diligent investigation, identified the shooter as Aluante Watson, a 27-year-old resident of Hammond. Following their findings, detectives promptly obtained an arrest warrant for Watson on charges of Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.

With the gravity of the situation at hand, the HPD SWAT Team was immediately activated to assist in the apprehension of Watson at his residence. However, upon reaching the location, law enforcement officers discovered that Watson was not present. Nevertheless, news of the officer presence seemed to have reached Watson, compelling him to voluntarily turn himself in. The arrest was carried out smoothly and without any incident, and Watson was subsequently booked into the Hammond City Jail, where he currently awaits further legal proceedings.

In a separate incident on November 2, 2023, at approximately 10:25 pm, HPD officers stationed outside the Hammond City Jail witnessed a vehicle deviate from the roadway and collide with the fountain in the parking lot. Upon rushing to the scene, officers discovered that the driver had sustained gunshot wounds and immediately began administering life-saving measures.

During the subsequent investigation, the suspect responsible for the shooting was identified as 18-year-old Tywaun Hunter, a resident of Hammond. Detectives wasted no time in obtaining an arrest warrant for Hunter, charging him with Attempted 2nd Degree Murder.
