COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The heartbreaking story of Adonais Gallegos, a 27-year-old man who tragically lost his life in a stabbing incident last month, continues to resonate with his grieving family. The incident occurred in October when Gallegos was found with a fatal stab wound in a neighborhood near Memorial Park in Colorado Springs. Emergency services rushed him to the hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries. The police wasted no time in apprehending the suspect, Marianna Guerra, 22, who Gallegos had referred to as his fiance on social media. Currently, Guerra is being held on a $1 million bond while facing a first-degree murder charge in connection with Gallegos’ death.

Nearly a month after this tragic incident, Gallegos’ grieving family reached out to 11 News to share their memories and honor his legacy. Reflecting on his character, Gallegos’ aunt, Terina Nungaray, described him as an exceptionally loving gentleman. She emphasized the strong bond he shared with his family, particularly with his cousins, as he grew up as an only child.

“He loved being around us,” Nungaray fondly recalled. “We were always close, all of us, since he was a little boy.”

While Nungaray played a significant role in raising Gallegos, she acknowledged that his mother primarily raised him, with his father being incarcerated. Despite the challenges, the family made sure to keep Gallegos’ father informed about his son’s life. Nungaray revealed that both of Gallegos’ parents, along with Gallegos himself, were deaf.

Tragically, Gallegos’ life was cut short just before he and Guerra were supposed to attend a gender reveal party for one of Gallegos’ cousins. Nungaray learned about the incident the following day when her brother informed her of the devastating news.

“We were all shocked. We were crying. You know, we were just going crazy, we were very devastated,” Nungaray expressed, still grappling with the immense loss.

While Nungaray personally hadn’t met Guerra, she highlighted some concerning signs in their relationship. Gallegos frequently posted on his Facebook page about their frequent fights, raising red flags for his family.

Recognizing the importance of identifying such signs, Kingdom Builders Family Life Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic violence, emphasized the significance of early intervention in potentially abusive relationships. Although spotting signs from a distance can be challenging, the program director for Kingdom Builders, Briana Geter, urged individuals to empower anyone they suspect might be in an abusive relationship.

“Empowering them, letting them know it’s not your fault. You deserve love and you deserve healthy love,” Geter asserted. “You don’t deserve the shouting or yelling at you.”

If someone believes they are in a dangerous situation, Geter advised reaching out to Kingdom Builders, who can provide guidance and support. They can be contacted at (719) 464-4647. Alternatively, individuals can also seek assistance from TESSA at (719) 633-3819.

As Gallegos’ family mourns their devastating loss, they are faced with the financial burden of arranging his funeral. To help alleviate the expenses, a fundraising campaign has been set up, which can be accessed by clicking here.
