Domestic Help Arrested for Stealing Gold Ornaments Worth ₹20 Lakh

A 53-year-old domestic help, identified as Lakshmamma aka Munilakshmamma, was apprehended on Tuesday by the Kamakshipalya police on charges of stealing gold ornaments. The arrest came after Ranjita, 38, the complainant, reported the disappearance of gold ornaments worth ₹20 lakh from her cupboard.

The incident unfolded when Ranjita opened her cupboard to retrieve a gold chain she intended to return to her father-in-law. To her dismay, she discovered that the precious jewellery was missing. Suspecting her domestic help’s involvement, Ranjita wasted no time in reporting the incident to the authorities.

Upon receiving the complaint, the police swiftly initiated an investigation. The diligent efforts of the officers led them to recover 374 grams of gold ornaments from Lakshmamma. Consequently, she was detained for further questioning on November 7 and subsequently arrested on Tuesday.

Speaking about the arrest, an official from the Kamakshipalya police department stated, “We take incidents of theft very seriously, and our officers worked diligently to apprehend the suspect. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our residents.”
