Officers from the Pearland Police Department in Texas have launched a manhunt for a 19-year-old suspect, David Negrete, who allegedly killed a child and injured four others in a mass shooting on Sunday afternoon. The suspect is wanted on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and is considered armed and dangerous, according to authorities.

Negrete was identified as the suspect through surveillance footage and interviews conducted with witnesses and victims. While three of the five victims have been described as innocent bystanders, two individuals aged 16 and 18 are still being interviewed to determine their involvement in the shooting.

The victims, including a 14-year-old girl, a 37-year-old man, and a ten-year-old child, were injured during the gunfire and immediately transported to local hospitals. Tragically, the ten-year-old child succumbed to their injuries.

Following the release of the suspect’s name, Governor Greg Abbott announced that Texas Crimestoppers would be offering a $15,000 reward for any information leading to Negrete’s arrest. Additionally, Negrete has been added to the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitives list.

The incident took place at Cole’s Flea Market in Texas on Sunday evening, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Police were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of shots fired. The five victims were quickly located and transported to nearby hospitals, where the ten-year-old boy was pronounced dead.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed two Hispanic male subjects were involved in the altercation,” stated a news release from the Pearland Police Department. The authorities also discovered at least two handguns at the scene, although the exact number of rounds fired is still unknown. Chad Rogers, a spokesman for the police department, stated that there may be one or two more individuals who were armed and fired their weapons during the incident.

Rogers confirmed that the other four victims, including the two teenagers, are alive. However, their involvement in the shooting is still under investigation. Witnesses reported seeing two men involved in an altercation prior to the chaotic scene unfolding at the flea market.

The 14-year-old girl and 37-year-old man were both initially in stable condition and have since been released from the hospital. The two teenage victims underwent surgery, and detectives are working to determine their possible connection to the incident.

“This is not anything that happens in Pearland. This is extremely tragic anytime someone falls victim to gun violence, especially in our community,” Rogers emphasized.

As the search for Negrete continues, law enforcement has cautioned the public that he should be considered armed and dangerous. Two handguns were recovered at the scene, indicating the potential involvement of other individuals in the shooting.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on Negrete’s whereabouts or any details regarding the incident to contact the Pearland Police Department Tip Line or Brazoria County Crime Stoppers.

Governor Abbott expressed his condolences, stating, “Texas mourns the loss of a precious child following the devastating tragedy in Pearland yesterday, and our hearts are with the four other victims in the hospital as they recover from their injuries.”

The Pearland Police Department has affirmed that the investigation into this horrific incident is ongoing and being handled by their Criminal Investigations Division..
