Man Arrested in Norwalk Hit-and-Run Case Resulting in Fatality and Injuries

A man has been charged by the police in connection with a hit-and-run incident involving a motorcycle in Norwalk. The accident tragically resulted in the death of a woman and caused injuries to another individual.

James O’Byrne, a 36-year-old resident of Wilton, was taken into custody on Sunday. He is facing multiple charges, including second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, reckless driving, evading responsibility, operation of a motor vehicle under suspension, failure to insure a motor vehicle, and operation of an unregistered motor vehicle. The Norwalk Police Department confirmed the arrest.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred on October 28 at around 6:06 p.m. Police received an urgent 911 call reporting a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of East Rocks Road and Bayne Street. The collision involved a motorcycle and a driver who fled the scene, according to the Norwalk Police Department.

Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers discovered a motorcycle that had been struck and two individuals suffering from significant injuries. Both victims were immediately transported to Norwalk Hospital for medical attention. Sadly, the passenger on the motorcycle, identified as 59-year-old Dawn Kravarik from Norwalk, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

In response to the incident, the Norwalk Police Detective Bureau took over the investigation and collaborated with the department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit. The investigative process involved conducting interviews, collecting evidence, and executing search warrants, stated the police.

After thorough investigation, the authorities obtained a warrant for the arrest of James O’Byrne. The police have set his bail at $1 million, and he is expected to appear in court on November 27 to face the charges brought against him.
