Two Killed and Five Injured as Drunk Driver Crashes into Supermarket Platform

Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : Two people lost their lives and five others sustained injuries in a tragic accident that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday. The incident took place in Anna Nagar when a car, driven by an intoxicated man, crashed into a platform near a supermarket. The driver, identified as Mohammed Asif, was not only under the influence of alcohol but also ganja.

The victims have been identified as Vijay Yadav, a 21-year-old college student, and Nagasundaram, a 74-year-old security guard at the supermarket. The accident occurred at around 2.15 a.m. when Asif, accompanied by his friend Ramana, was driving the car from Anna Nagar Roundabout towards Thirumangalam. Asif, who was reportedly high, lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the platform and adjacent area of the supermarket. The car hit seven people, including pedestrians, before coming to a halt after ramming into two wheelers and hitting the median on the road.

Fortunately, passersby came to the rescue of the injured victims and swiftly rushed them to the Government Medical College Hospital in Kilpauk. Additionally, they managed to apprehend the driver, Asif, although his friend Ramana managed to flee the scene. Unfortunately, despite the prompt medical attention, Nagasundaram and Vijay Yadav succumbed to their injuries.

The Traffic Investigation police in Thirumangalam have registered a case against Asif under sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 308 (Attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the Indian Penal Code, along with the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. The incident resulted in the complete destruction of three two-wheelers and the involved car.
