The victim has been identified as Saifuddin Laskar, the TMC president of Bamungachi in Joynagar. Laskar’s wife holds the position of panchayat pradhan, adding to the significance of his role within the party. Following the shooting, enraged supporters of Laskar apprehended one of the alleged attackers and subjected him to a violent mob attack, resulting in his death. Local witnesses claim that the assailants belonged to the Communist Party of India (Marxist), commonly known as CPI(M).

In retaliation, supporters of Laskar ransacked the houses of CPI(M) supporters in nearby areas and set fire to some of the properties. The incident has created a tense atmosphere in the region, with political rivals pointing fingers at each other for the escalating violence.

Sujan Chakraborty, a central committee member of the CPI(M), acknowledged the unfortunate death of Saifuddin Laskar but urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation to identify the culprits and uncover any underlying conspiracy. Chakraborty emphasized that blaming the CPI(M) for the murder was baseless, attributing the incident to internal strife within the TMC.

This is not the first time that a TMC worker has fallen victim to violence in the South 24 Parganas district. In June of this year, another TMC worker named Ziarul Molla was allegedly shot dead by unidentified individuals. The 40-year-old activist from Khirishkhali village was found dead with a bullet wound to his head in the Basanti police station area. The incident further highlights the prevailing climate of violence and political rivalries in the region.

The police have launched an investigation into the recent killing of Saifuddin Laskar and have arrested two individuals in connection with the murder. The authorities are determined to bring the culprits to justice and restore peace in the area.

The series of violent incidents involving TMC members has raised concerns about the deteriorating law and order situation in West Bengal. It is imperative for the police and the administration to take effective measures to curb such incidents and ensure the safety of citizens.

With inputs from PTI, the investigation into the murder is ongoing, and updates are awaited. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the need for political parties to address internal conflicts peacefully and prioritize the well-being of their members..
