Initial investigations suggest that the fire was caused by the explosion of oil and chemicals stored inside drums in the godown, causing the flames to rapidly spread to the other floors of the building.

The owner of the building, Ramesh Jaiswal, is currently on the run. Authorities have discovered that Jaiswal owns chemical factories in various parts of the city, including the one located on the ground floor of the ill-fated apartment complex, which he used as a storage facility for oil drums and cans.

Shockingly, seven of the victims were members of the same family. The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Azam (54), Mohammad Hasibur Rahman, Rehana Sultana (50), Dr Tahura Farheen (38), her children Tuba (5) and Taruba (12), Faiza Sameen (25), Zakir Hussain, and Nikkat Sultana.

According to reports, Dr Farheen, a dentist by profession, did not reside in the apartment building but had come to visit her relatives along with her two young children.
