Suspect Prentis Anderson Jr. sought for possession of stolen motor vehicle

Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : Scott Hall with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported an incident on November 11th involving Cpl. G. Martin who noticed a vehicle speeding in the Halifax area. Cpl. Martin promptly initiated a traffic stop and identified the two occupants of the vehicle. To assist in the investigation, Cpl. Martin’s K-9, Loki, was deployed and detected the presence of illegal narcotics on board the vehicle. This prompted a thorough search which led to the discovery of Schedule II drugs and drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the search, the passenger, identified as Lakeisha Parker, a 30-year-old resident of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with possession of cocaine and possession of drug paraphernalia. Parker was later granted a $1,000 bond and provided a court date scheduled for November 30th. The driver of the vehicle received a citation for speeding.

In another incident on the same day, Cpl. G. Martin conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on Interstate 95 for exceeding the posted speed limit. The driver, identified as Antwaine Johnson, a 45-year-old resident of Littleton, was further investigated. This led to a search of the vehicle where a firearm and marijuana were discovered.

Johnson faced charges of speeding, possession of marijuana up to half an ounce, and possession of a firearm by a felon. He was subsequently given a court date of November 30th and was taken to the Halifax County Detention Center with no bond.

Moving to November 9th, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a stolen dirt bike in the Hollister area. The caller informed authorities that they had witnessed a white Chevrolet Trail Blazer leaving the vicinity with a small black trailer carrying a red and white Honda bike. Upon reaching their family member’s house, they discovered that the dirt bike had indeed been stolen.

Deputies quickly responded to the area and attempted to locate the Trail Blazer, which was last spotted heading north on NC Highway 48 towards Roanoke Rapids. Thanks to the Flock camera system, Deputy D. Bybee successfully tracked down the Trail Blazer, which displayed a North Carolina registration of RBY-3375. The vehicle was registered to an address on Sycamore Street in Weldon.

Deputy Bybee proceeded to the registered address on Sycamore Street and noticed the Trail Blazer, with the stolen dirt bike still on the trailer, traveling on East 11th Street towards Sycamore. A traffic stop was initiated, and the Trail Blazer pulled into the driveway of 1211 Sycamore St. The driver, identified as 26-year-old Prentis Anderson Jr. of Weldon, immediately fled on foot upon being asked to step out of the vehicle. However, his female passenger, Shaniqwa Jones, who owned the Trail Blazer, remained inside.

Despite efforts to locate Anderson, he has not been apprehended as of now. Meanwhile, Jones was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle and resist, delay, and obstruct for providing false information. Due to pending charges, she was placed in the Halifax County Jail without bond and given a court date of November 14th.

Moving on to November 10th, Sgt. Sherrod responded to a call from a concerned citizen regarding a white minivan traveling at high speeds on Interstate 95 near the 170-mile marker. Sgt. Sherrod observed a white Honda Odyssey driven by 38-year-old Scott Kercher from New Jersey approaching from behind. The van changed lanes and overtook Sgt. Sherrod’s vehicle at a speed exceeding 100 mph. Sgt. Sherrod attempted to pull Kercher over, but he accelerated and continued southbound, reaching speeds of 120 mph.

The pursuit continued into Nash County, where the Nash County Sheriff’s Office had strategically placed spike strips at the Highway 64 interchange. Kercher’s vehicle struck the spike strips, causing him to lose control and crash, ultimately ending the chase. Kercher sustained minor injuries and was taken to UNC Nash for treatment before being released.

Sgt. Sherrod arrested Kercher and charged him with felony flee to elude, reckless driving to endanger, failure to heed lights and siren, failure to reduce speed, improper use of traffic lane, and exceeding the posted speed limit. Kercher was subsequently placed in the Halifax County Jail with a $25,000 secured bond and provided a court date scheduled for November 13th.

Meanwhile, the Enfield Police Department took to Facebook on November 10th to address a series of recent crimes in the community. The department highlighted a robbery on November 3rd, a homicide of a juvenile on November 4th, and instances of gunfire within the city limits on the same day. The Enfield Police Department assured residents that they are actively investigating these incidents and working towards holding the responsible individuals accountable. They urged anyone with information to come forward and assured confidentiality.
