Passenger Fatally Injured and Driver Arrested for DUI – Criminal Vehicular Homicide after Vehicle Plunges into Mouse River in Northwest Minot

MINOT, North Dakota – Tragedy struck on Saturday night when a vehicle veered off the road and plunged into the icy waters of the Mouse River, resulting in the death of a passenger. The driver, who miraculously survived the incident, has been arrested and is now facing felony charges of DUI – criminal vehicular homicide.

According to a statement released by the Minot Police, the harrowing incident unfolded shortly after 11 PM when law enforcement received reports of a vehicle submerged in the Mouse River. First responders quickly arrived at the scene to find the driver still trapped inside the partially submerged vehicle, while the passenger remained unaccounted for.

Despite the treacherous conditions, the brave members of the Minot Fire Department immediately launched a rescue operation, battling against the frigid temperatures and strong currents. After a relentless effort, they were able to bring the male passenger to the riverbank, where they performed life-saving measures in a desperate attempt to revive him.

Regrettably, their efforts proved futile, and the passenger was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The identity of the deceased individual has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the ill-fated vehicle has been identified as 22-year-old Brendan Rademacher from Minot. Despite suffering minor injuries, Rademacher was able to free himself from the vehicle before emergency services arrived. However, suspicion arose as authorities detected signs of impairment, subsequently leading to his arrest.

The Minot Police revealed that Rademacher now faces a serious charge of DUI – criminal vehicular homicide, which carries severe penalties if convicted. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is currently ongoing, as law enforcement seeks to gather additional evidence and determine the exact cause of the crash.
