Accident – Death – Obituary News : Tragic Accident at Anjuna Hotel Leaves Owner Dead and Two Injured

ANJUNA: In a devastating incident on Saturday, a sports utility vehicle (SUV) crashed into the reception area of a hotel in the coastal village of Anjuna, Goa, resulting in the death of the hotel owner and injuries to two other staff members.

The victim, identified as Remedia Mary Albuquerque (57), was the owner of the hotel. The two injured individuals were identified as Shiv Mangal Dindo (22) and Rupa Paras (31). The driver of the SUV, a 42-year-old man named Sachin Venu Gopal Kurup from Pune’s Kondhwa area, has been taken into custody and charged with culpable homicide.

According to reports, Kurup was heading to the La Maior Roma Resort in Anjuna’s Vagator when he lost control of his Ford Endeavour SUV. The 2-ton vehicle crashed directly into the hotel’s reception area, where Albuquerque and the two staff members were present at the time.

Deputy Superintendent of Police, Jivba Dalvi, stated that Kurup had been driving recklessly and dangerously, fully aware that his actions could lead to the death of innocent individuals. The tragedy struck when the SUV collided with Albuquerque, who was standing near the reception counter.

Anjuna Police have registered a case under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code and have initiated an investigation into the incident. The accused, Sachin Venu Gopal Kurup, has been arrested and is currently in custody.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the accused has undergone medical tests to determine if he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that Kurup was visiting a friend at the Jolly Jolly Lester resort in Vagator before the incident occurred. It was during this visit that he drove his car recklessly, leading to the tragic collision at the hotel reception counter.

Authorities are continuing their inquiries to gather more information and ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the accident.
