Hall County, Georgia – The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is currently conducting an investigation into the shooting death of a naked man who pointed a gun at Hall County Sheriff’s deputies. The incident took place in a residential neighborhood in Flowery Branch, where the man, identified as 57-year-old David James Umpmreyville, allegedly assaulted a woman before being shot by the deputies.

According to reports from WSB TV, the incident unfolded on Saturday morning when officers received reports of an assault at a home on Samoa Way. The victim, a woman who resides in the home, called 911 stating that Umpmreyville had assaulted her and then forcefully thrown her down a flight of stairs.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies discovered that the incident was a domestic situation. Umpmreyville, described by GBI officials as belligerent, refused to comply with the deputies’ requests and barricaded himself inside the house.

In response, the Hall County SWAT team was called in to assist. They established a position around the house in an attempt to safely remove Umpmreyville from the premises. However, the situation escalated when he emerged from the house completely naked, brandishing a handgun, and began firing multiple shots into the nearby woods.

Although he did not hit any deputies, Umpmreyville continued to threaten to shoot at officials if they attempted to approach him. During the standoff, he pointed his gun and fired at one of the deputies. In response, a member of the SWAT team discharged their weapon but failed to strike him.

Umpmreyville then moved to a window in another part of the house and aimed his gun directly at the deputies. Faced with an imminent threat, a deputy fired their weapon, fatally injuring Umpmreyville.

The GBI has launched an independent investigation into the shooting, and the findings will be presented to the Hall County District Attorney’s Office for review. The incident has sparked discussions about the use of force by law enforcement in potentially dangerous situations.

Residents of the neighborhood expressed shock and concern over the events that unfolded. Many are relieved that no deputies were injured during the confrontation but are mourning the loss of life.

The GBI investigation aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the events leading up to the shooting, shedding light on the actions of both Umpmreyville and the law enforcement officers involved. As the investigation progresses, more details are expected to emerge.

The incident serves as a reminder of the difficult and often dangerous situations law enforcement officers face on a daily basis. It also raises questions about the appropriate use of force and the importance of de-escalation techniques in potentially volatile encounters.

The community eagerly awaits the conclusion of the investigation and hopes for transparency and accountability in the handling of this case..
