Over a Dozen Individuals Detained in Homeless Outreach Operation at Colorado Springs Park

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – In a homeless outreach operation conducted at Dorchester Park, situated just south of downtown Colorado Springs, the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT) of the Colorado Springs Police Department detained more than a dozen individuals on Sunday morning. The operation was initiated in response to repeated complaints regarding camping and drug-related activities occurring in the area.

The incident unfolded around 7:45 a.m. when the HOT officers arrived at the park to investigate the reported concerns. During their investigation, the HOT officers identified an active fire and suspected camping, resulting in the detention of 14 individuals. Among them, two individuals were given a required verbal warning for their first-time offense, while the remaining 12 were taken into custody.

The detained individuals were found to be wanted for various charges, with one case involving a bank robbery in North Carolina. The majority of the other alleged offenses were related to drug possession, illegal camping, and starting fires. In total, the police successfully cleared 35 misdemeanor warrants and two felony warrants during this comprehensive operation.

Following their apprehension, the 12 suspects were transported to the El Paso County jail. Among them, the two felony suspects were identified as 31-year-old Douglas Spaulding, who was wanted for a felony drug charge, and 40-year-old Christopher Lee, wanted in connection with the aforementioned bank robbery.
