A 29-year-old man from Montreal Lake Cree Nation has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following a tragic incident that occurred on the reserve. The suspect, identified as Walker Smith, was taken into custody by Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP officers.

The incident, which took place at approximately 3:15 am on Sunday, prompted a call to Waskesiu/Montreal Lake RCMP for assistance from the local EMS at a residence within the reserve. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered an injured man, later identified as 41-year-old Kevin Stewart from Montreal Lake Cree Nation. Tragically, despite the efforts of EMS, Stewart succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The RCMP conducted a swift investigation, resulting in the arrest of Walker Smith at the location. Smith has now been charged with second-degree murder and uttering threats.
