According to the incident report, deputies arrived at the scene after receiving a call about a disturbance at the Summer Wind Apartments’ common area around 8 p.m. When they reached the location, they found Crumpler lying face down near the complex’s fire pit. The victim was unresponsive and bleeding from his face, struggling to breathe.

Emergency medical responders were promptly summoned to the scene, where they administered CPR to Crumpler. He was then rushed to Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Tragically, Crumpler was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, as stated in the arrest warrant.

Witnesses, who were residents at the apartment complex, informed deputies that the altercation had occurred between Crumpler and Kronenberger. According to the sheriff’s office arrest warrant, the dispute escalated when Kronenberger pushed Crumpler to the ground earlier that evening. In a fit of rage, the 62-year-old allegedly threw a chair at Crumpler’s face, causing severe head injuries that ultimately led to his untimely demise.

The motive behind the argument remains unknown at this stage, as a spokesperson for the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office revealed that there is no further information available regarding the cause of the altercation.

Following the incident, Kronenberger fled to his apartment within the Summer Wind Apartments complex. However, law enforcement promptly apprehended him later that night. It is worth noting that Crumpler was not a resident of the apartment complex, as confirmed by the sheriff’s office spokesperson.

The incident report suggests that both Kronenberger and Crumpler had consumed alcohol prior to the altercation, though the exact impact this had on their actions is yet to be determined.

Kronenberger was subsequently booked into the Dorchester County Detention Center on November 9 and is currently being held without bond, as indicated by jail records.

Summerville, where the incident occurred, is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Charleston.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully and the potential consequences when altercations escalate to such tragic levels. The community mourns the loss of Charles Crumpler Jr. and awaits further developments in this ongoing investigation.
