Local Jubo League Leader Fatally Stabbed in Gaibandha

A shocking incident unfolded on Sunday night in Gaibandha’s Sundarganj upazila as a prominent leader of the local Jubo League was brutally stabbed to death by unidentified miscreants. The victim, identified as Zahidul Islam, aged 38, served as the president of the Sonaray union unit of the Jubo League and was the son of Abul Hossain, a respected member of Paschim Baidyanath village in the upazila.

Law enforcement authorities have already made significant progress in the investigation, arresting four individuals believed to be connected to the murder. According to the police, the unfortunate incident occurred when Zahidul Islam and his companion, Kabir Mia, were ambushed by a group of 7 to 8 assailants while returning home from Bamandanga around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Fortunately, local residents quickly intervened, rescuing the injured victims and rushing them to the Sundarganj Health Complex for immediate medical attention. However, due to the severity of his injuries, Zahidul Islam was later transferred to the renowned Rangpur Medical College Hospital. Sadly, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, Zahidul succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, leaving behind a grieving community.

KM Azmiruzzaman, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Sundarganj Police Station, expressed his condolences and assured the public that every possible measure would be taken to bring the perpetrators to justice. “Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the criminals responsible for this heinous act,” he stated.

Amidst the shock and sorrow, Mizanur Rahman Litu, the president of the upazila unit Jubo League, made a grave allegation, claiming that Zahidul Islam was deliberately targeted in a premeditated attack orchestrated by Jamaat-BNP terrorists. Litu demanded prompt action from the authorities, urging them to swiftly apprehend the culprits and ensure they face the full force of the law.

The tragic loss of Zahidul Islam has sent shockwaves throughout the region, leaving the community in a state of mourning. As investigations continue, the local police force is determined to uncover the motive behind the attack and ensure that justice is served.
