Man Arrested in Norwalk Hit-and-Run Incident That Resulted in Fatality

A 36-year-old man from Wilton has been taken into custody by the Norwalk Police Department after being charged in connection with a tragic hit-and-run accident involving a motorcycle. The incident led to the death of a woman and left another person injured.

The suspect, identified as James O’Byrne, is facing multiple charges, including second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, reckless driving, evading responsibility, operation of a motor vehicle under suspension, failure to insure a motor vehicle, and operation of an unregistered motor vehicle.

The charges stem from a collision that occurred on the evening of October 28 at the intersection of East Rocks Road and Bayne Street. The Norwalk Police Department received a distressing 911 call reporting a motor vehicle accident in which a motorcycle was struck by an evading motorist.

Upon arriving at the scene, police officers discovered a severely damaged motorcycle and two individuals who had sustained significant injuries. Both victims were promptly transported to Norwalk Hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, the passenger, identified as 59-year-old Dawn Kravarik from Norwalk, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Following the incident, the Norwalk Police Detective Bureau took charge of the investigation and collaborated with the department’s Crash Reconstruction Unit. The investigative process involved conducting interviews, gathering evidence, and executing search warrants to uncover crucial information.

After a thorough investigation, the authorities obtained a warrant for the arrest of James O’Byrne. The suspect was apprehended on Sunday, and his bail has been set at $1 million. He is scheduled to make an appearance in court on November 27.
