Indian-origin Sikh gang member Harpreet Singh Uppal and his 11-year-old son shot dead in Canada

Accident – Death – Obituary News : OTTAWA: Canadian police have released video footage and images of suspects believed to be linked to the shooting deaths of Harpreet Singh Uppal, an Indian-origin Sikh “gang member,” and his 11-year-old son in southeast Edmonton, according to a report by Canada-based CTV News. The police have described the killings as “sick and twisted” and have identified Uppal as a “high-level gang member” involved in the drug trade. They also believe that his son was intentionally targeted.

According to the Vancouver Sun, Uppal has been identified as an affiliate of the Brothers Keeper gang. This tragic incident comes amidst a diplomatic row between India and Canada over the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Nijjar. Nijjar was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside a gurdwara in Surrey on June 19 of this year.

The Edmonton Police, on Sunday, released surveillance footage and a photograph of a vehicle and two suspects, hoping that it could generate new information related to the shooting that took place on November 9 at 12 noon. Staff Sgt Rob Bilawey with the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Homicide Section said, “We are hopeful that releasing this photo and video clip will help someone recall seeing the vehicle and/or suspects before or after the shooting,” as reported by CTV News Edmonton.

The video shows the suspects exiting a black BMW SUV and running towards Uppal’s white SUV. They fired a weapon and quickly fled the scene. Both Uppal and his son were shot and died shortly after. The police are continuing their investigation, and autopsies will be conducted on Monday and Tuesday.

At the time of the shooting, another 11-year-old boy, who was not related to Uppal, was also in the car. He managed to escape unharmed. In a statement, the Edmonton Police Service said, “On Thursday, November 9, 2023, at approximately 12 p.m., Southeast Branch patrol officers responded to the report of a shooting outside of a business in the area of 50 Street and Ellerslie Road.”

Following the shooting, the police were notified of a vehicle fire in the vicinity of 34 Street and Township Road 510, north of Beaumont. They are currently investigating whether the burned vehicle, a 2012 black BMW X6, is related to the suspect vehicle. No one was found inside the burned vehicle, and no injuries have been reported as a result of the fire.

This is not the first time that Uppal has been targeted. In 2021, he was injured in another shooting at an Edmonton restaurant, which the police described as a targeted attack, as reported by CTV News Edmonton. The Vancouver Sun has also reported that three gangland killings in Edmonton and Toronto last week are linked to an ongoing gang war in British Columbia.

The Brothers Keepers, the United Nations, and the Red Scorpion-Kang group are among the gangs involved in this deadly conflict, which has turned public spaces in Canada into battlegrounds, according to the Vancouver Sun.
