At approximately 4:30 a.m., Overcash was driving one of the vehicles involved in the collision. The crash occurred on the H.E Bailey Turnpike, a major highway connecting different parts of Oklahoma. Two other individuals were also injured in the accident and were transported to the hospital for treatment. The extent of their injuries remains unspecified, as stated by the OHP.

An investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway. The authorities are working diligently to determine the factors that led to this tragic incident.

Importance of Crash Investigation

Motor vehicle crashes are responsible for approximately 36,000 deaths and 1.9 million injuries in the United States each year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that common causes of fatal crashes include speeding, impaired driving, failure to stay in the proper lane, failure to yield the right of way, and distracted driving.

While the official investigation is ongoing, Candice Bond, an experienced accident attorney and Managing Partner of Bond Legal, emphasizes the significance of an independent investigation conducted by a seasoned attorney. Bond explains, “In addition to the diligent work of law enforcement, an attorney can re-interview important witnesses, analyze any surveillance video from the scene of the crash, and obtain phone and texting records of the liable party.”

Bond continues, “Time is of the essence in cases such as this one, and the victim’s family must ensure that evidence is reviewed efficiently.”

Wrongful Death Claim

As the investigation progresses, the family members of Hildreth Overcash may be entitled to file a wrongful death claim. Wrongful death claims allow family members to seek compensation for various damages, including loss of companionship, pain and suffering, and emotional distress resulting from a catastrophic accident.

Stefano Formica, of counsel with Bond Legal, acknowledges the emotional and economic toll that losing a loved one can have on a family. Formica advises, “If you have lost a loved one due to someone else’s negligence, contact a wrongful death attorney who can provide the guidance needed to obtain the justice you deserve.”

Formica further warns against the potential tactics employed by insurance companies, stating, “Insurance companies may try to take advantage of your lack of knowledge of the law and offer a low settlement or deny your claim altogether. An attorney can protect your rights and ensure that you are not taken advantage of.”
