Accident – Death – Obituary News : Former Star Football Player Dies in Tragic Car Accident on Alabama Interstate

In a devastating incident, Zedrick Raymond, a former standout football player at Mobile’s Murphy High School and Miami University of Ohio, lost his life in a one-vehicle accident on a service road along Interstate 65. The Mobile police reported that the tragic incident occurred on Saturday evening between Airport Boulevard and Cottage Hill Road.

Authorities arrived at the scene around 9:30 p.m., discovering a vehicle that had collided with a concrete culvert. The driver, identified as 27-year-old Zedrick Raymond, had sustained life-threatening injuries. It was determined that Raymond was driving south on the service road when he lost control of the vehicle, veering off the roadway and ultimately crashing into the culvert.

Emergency responders quickly transported Raymond to a nearby hospital, where medical professionals worked tirelessly to save his life. Tragically, despite their efforts, Raymond succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Raymond’s athletic prowess was evident throughout his football career. He captained the team at Murphy High School before accepting a scholarship to play for Division II Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi. After a year, he transferred to Independence Community College in Kansas, which gained recognition through the popular Netflix series, “Last Chance U.” Raymond’s exceptional skills as a two-year starter for Independence led to him recording an impressive six interceptions during his second season, placing him fourth in the nation.

In 2018, Raymond signed with Miami University of Ohio, where he continued to shine as a two-year starter for the Redhawks. His contributions were instrumental in helping the team secure the Mid-American Conference championship in 2019. His undeniable talent and resilience were acknowledged by Miami coach Chuck Martin, who expressed admiration for Raymond’s perseverance in a 2020 interview with AL.com.

Coach Martin stated, “It’s been one incredible story, what he’s persevered through. This kid’s always just kept pushing forward. He’s been a two-year starter for us and helped us win a lot of games. He’s very versatile.”

Raymond’s journey came full circle when he had the opportunity to conclude his college football career in the 2020 LendingTree Bowl at Ladd-Peebles Stadium, the very same field where he played all his high school home games. It was a poignant moment for Raymond, whose dedication and passion for the sport had taken him on an extraordinary path.
