The unfortunate victim has been identified as Frank London, a 78-year-old pedestrian.

According to the authorities, the incident involved a white Toyota 212 motorcar, bearing registration number PXX 1989, which was owned and driven by Daniel James, a 28-year-old resident of Mackenzie. Frank London, the deceased, was a resident of Adventure Village.

Initial reports reveal that the motorcar was travelling in a northerly direction along the western side of the road. Daniel James, the driver, claimed that he suddenly spotted a man sitting on the road within his lane. In an effort to avoid a collision, James veered eastward, but the short distance between them resulted in the front left portion of the vehicle colliding with the pedestrian.

As a consequence of the collision, the motorcar sustained damage, while Frank London suffered severe injuries to his body. Witnesses at the scene, displaying commendable public-spiritedness, promptly assisted by transporting the unconscious London in a passing vehicle to the nearby Mackenzie Public Hospital. Upon arrival, doctors on duty assessed London but tragically pronounced him dead.

A formal press release issued by the police stated, “The deceased’s body has been temporarily stored pending a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.”

Following the incident, the damaged vehicle was towed to the Highway Patrol Base, where it will undergo thorough examination by a Licensing and Certifying Officer to ascertain its roadworthiness.

Authorities conducted a breathalyser test on Daniel James, the driver involved, to determine whether alcohol consumption contributed to the accident. The test, however, yielded negative results, indicating the absence of alcohol in James’ breath. Nevertheless, James has been taken into custody to assist the ongoing investigation.

This tragic incident serves as a reminder for both pedestrians and motorists alike to remain vigilant on the roads and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent such devastating accidents from occurring.
