Accident – Death – Obituary News : Tragic Tractor-Trailer Accident Claims Life of Clifton Park Man on New York State Thruway
A devastating incident occurred on the New York State Thruway in the Lower Hudson Valley, as a tractor-trailer became fully engulfed in flames, resulting in the loss of a life. New York State Police are currently investigating the fatal crash that took place on I-87 in the village of Tarrytown.

The incident unfolded in the early morning hours on Friday when the State Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident on the northbound side of I-87 in Tarrytown. Upon their arrival, they discovered a tractor-trailer completely ablaze.
The driver of the tractor-trailer has been identified as 53-year-old Richard Simmons from Clifton Park. According to authorities, Simmons veered off the Thruway just before reaching the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. His vehicle collided with a guiderail and a storage building, resulting in fatal injuries. Tragically, Simmons was the sole occupant of the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
At present, the cause of the crash remains unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. State Police are diligently working to gather all necessary information to determine the circumstances leading up to the accident.
In response to the incident, several emergency response teams were dispatched to the scene. The NYS Thruway Authority, Tarrytown, Nyack, and Central Nyack Fire Departments, alongside Tarrytown Volunteer EMS and Greenburgh EMS, provided assistance to the State Police.
