The driver of the tractor-trailer has been identified as 53-year-old Richard Simmons from Clifton Park. According to authorities, Simmons veered off the Thruway just before reaching the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge. His vehicle collided with a guiderail and a storage building, resulting in fatal injuries. Tragically, Simmons was the sole occupant of the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.

At present, the cause of the crash remains unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. State Police are diligently working to gather all necessary information to determine the circumstances leading up to the accident.
