According to a news release from the Parma Police Department, the pursuit began around 8:18 p.m. on November 9, when an officer observed a 1999 Honda Civic driving north on Peal Road near Ridge Road. The officer noticed several equipment violations and decided to initiate a traffic stop.

Upon seeing the police vehicle, the driver of the Honda slowed down and pulled into the McDonald’s on Pearl Road. However, instead of complying with the officer’s instructions, the driver circled the McDonald’s and then exited back onto Pearl Road, heading north once again.

The officer continued to pursue the vehicle, which eventually led them onto State Road in Cleveland. It was there that the Honda collided with a 2003 Buick Century, causing damage to both vehicles. The driver of the Honda then abandoned the car and attempted to flee on foot, running north on the east sidewalk of Pearl Road. Despite the officer’s commands to stop, the suspect persisted in his attempt to escape. However, luck was not on his side as he stumbled between two buildings, giving the pursuing officer the opportunity to catch up and apprehend him.

The driver, a 33-year-old man from Cleveland, was taken into custody. Cleveland EMS and Cleveland Police officers arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance. The arrested driver, his 40-year-old female passenger, and the 70-year-old driver of the Buick were all transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Parma Police have stated that the case will be forwarded to the Cuyahoga County Grand Jury for further review and potential additional charges.

This incident has gained attention due to a previous crash involving Parma Police in August. In that incident, a woman was severely injured and her dog tragically lost its life in a head-on collision with a wrong-way driver on I-76. The police were in pursuit of the other vehicle just moments before the crash occurred, but they lost sight of it and decided to terminate the pursuit.

The community of Old Brooklyn, where these incidents have taken place, is growing increasingly frustrated and demanding answers. Residents are concerned about the safety of their neighborhood, particularly given the proximity of sidewalks to the street.

Carl Schanz, a local resident, expressed his disheartenment, stating, “Yeah, this is disheartening; we have people walking up and down these sidewalks all the time; it doesn’t take much. You can see we’re five feet from the street.”

The community’s concerns have prompted an investigation by News 5, who have delved deeper into the issue. They have highlighted the frustration and desire for action among Old Brooklyn residents, who have experienced multiple wrecks and pursuits in their neighborhood in recent months.

It is clear that something needs to be done to address the ongoing safety concerns and prevent further incidents in Old Brooklyn. The community is eagerly awaiting a response and action from local authorities.
