Carmel Man Charged with Criminal Confinement and Public Indecency After Alleged Sexual Assault in Office Building Restroom

Ronald D’Onofrio allegedly fondled his genitals while demanding oral sex from a cleaning service woman in the men’s bathroom of an office building on Congressional Boulevard.

The incident took place on October 23 around 3:30 p.m. when the victim, who primarily spoke Spanish, entered the men’s room to begin her cleaning after ensuring it was unoccupied. However, she soon found herself confronted by D’Onofrio, who had re-entered the restroom and stood closely behind her, touching her right shoulder. Shockingly, D’Onofrio had pulled his pants down just below his waist and began fondling his genitals.

The victim reported that D’Onofrio demanded that she perform oral sex on him while he masturbated. Frightened and fearing for her safety, she managed to escape from D’Onofrio’s grasp and found someone to help her. The victim stated that she did not know the man and was traumatized by the incident.

The police investigation included a review of the building’s security camera footage, which confirmed the victim’s account. The footage showed the cleaning woman waiting outside the bathroom before entering once D’Onofrio left. Shortly after she entered, D’Onofrio re-entered the restroom and engaged in the reported incident with the woman.

Two witnesses provided statements corroborating the victim’s account. One witness confirmed that the woman flagged him down and used hand gestures to explain that D’Onofrio had demanded oral sex from her.

During a subsequent interview, D’Onofrio claimed that after using the restroom the first time, he left but later felt the urge to go again. He then stated that he walked back into the restroom. D’Onofrio asserted that the woman did not speak English and claimed that he asked her to leave, but she refused, prompting him to exit the restroom.

However, detectives noted several inconsistencies in D’Onofrio’s statements, suggesting deception. They also found that his description of events did not align with the surveillance footage. Additionally, they discovered that D’Onofrio had gone out of his way to use the restroom on the second floor when there was one available on the first floor.
