The incident unfolded on November 10th at approximately 7:19 a.m. when Bridgewater Police received a 911 call reporting an unknown problem at a residence on Columbia Drive. Subsequent calls from concerned family members revealed that an adult female relative was being held against her will inside the home. Authorities quickly responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered that Blakey had barricaded the entry to the home and was inside, threatening to harm both himself and the woman. Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald stated that the Somerset County Emergency Response Team, along with the SWAT Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, Tactical Medics, and members of Somerset County Communications Field Mobile Command Post, were immediately deployed to the scene.

For four hours, negotiators attempted to reason with Blakey, but their efforts proved futile. SWAT officers, who were strategically positioned for a swift entry, heard the victim’s screams from inside the home, prompting them to take immediate action. Employing an explosive breach, the officers gained access to the residence, which was barricaded with furniture and various items.

Once inside, the SWAT team safely extracted the female victim, who had sustained stab wounds and lacerations to her face and hand. Authorities swiftly moved to provide her with medical attention. Simultaneously, Blakey, who had self-inflicted stab wounds to his arm, collapsed on the floor. Officers immediately apprehended him and applied a tourniquet to control the severity of his injuries. Both Blakey and the victim were taken to a local trauma center, where they are expected to recover.
