Alarm Call Leads to Arrest

On late Sunday night (November 12), the Morganton Department of Public Safety received an alarm call from a business establishment located on Stonebridge Drive in Morganton. Promptly responding to the call, officers arrived at the scene to find a shattered glass door at the business premises. Conducting a thorough search of the building, the officers, unfortunately, failed to locate any suspects.

While securing the area and awaiting a key holder, the officers decided to expand their search to the surrounding woods behind the business. In a surprising turn of events, they stumbled upon two computers and various other electronic equipment items stashed near the fence behind the establishment. Positioned directly behind these stolen items, the officers discovered a male suspect attempting to conceal himself behind a fallen tree. The individual was promptly taken into custody and identified as Benjamin Jorge-Xiloj, a Morganton resident.

Prior Criminal Record

Following his arrest, Jorge-Xiloj was immediately incarcerated in the Burke County Jail under a secured bond amounting to $10,000. Public Safety officials revealed that this is not Jorge-Xiloj’s first encounter with the law. He already had a previous charge of breaking and entering a place of worship earlier this year. As a result, he was scheduled to appear in District Court today to face the newly filed break-in charges.

The Morganton Public Safety Department is committed to ensuring the safety and security of the community. Prompt response to the alarm call and the subsequent arrest of the suspect demonstrates their dedication to upholding the law and protecting local businesses from criminal activities.
