Man Arrested in Stamford After Lengthy Standoff with Police
A man was apprehended by law enforcement officials in Stamford over the weekend following a tense standoff that lasted for almost eight hours, prompting the deployment of the area’s SWAT team.

On Saturday morning at 7:38 a.m., police officers responded to a disturbance call at a residence located in the 3100 block of High Ridge Road. Upon arrival, they encountered a 36-year-old man, later identified as Stephan Gale, who was reportedly engaging in threatening behavior, according to Captain Chris Baker of the Stamford Police Department.
While inside the residence, Gale was observed igniting objects, although the situation did not reach a point where the fire department needed to intervene, clarified Baker. In response to the severity of the incident, the Stamford Police Department’s Hostage Negotiating Team and the Southwest Regional Emergency Response Team were summoned to the scene. Authorities worked meticulously for approximately seven and a half hours to ensure the safe apprehension of Gale. Throughout the duration of the operation, High Ridge Road remained closed to traffic.
Subsequently, Gale was charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless burning, second-degree threatening, and disorderly conduct. He was taken into custody and held on a bond of $25,000. Gale is expected to have his arraignment in Stamford Superior Court on Monday.
